“Is everybody else alright?” - Bobby Kennedy’s words immediately after he was shot 40 years ago. “What we need in the US is love, compassion, and wisdom…,”words from Kennedy in a speech after the Martin Luther King assassination. Obama’s campaign has been compared to Bobby Kennedy. A progressive candidate who started in politics through community organizing…who opposed the war in Iraq…who is not afraid to stand up to the politics of fear…an African-American became the Democratic nominee for president…the greatest upset in US politics.
Still riding high from the sale of “Talk of the Town” painting. Careful not to spout my good fortune with all in my path…so easy to let my head swell…trying to find absolute rights and wrongs is a trick we play on ourselves to feel secure and comfortable. We can either cling to security…or we can let ourselves feel exposed…completely naked…sounds uncomfortable or frightening…or quite daring and brave…nonetheless egolessness is grounding. (pencil and ink)

how fitting, harmonic even, that barack ties up the nomination 40 years after bobby’s death(and martin luther king’s), as i think he better than anyone since expresses our highest aspirations rather than appealing to fears and caricatures.bobby changed from cold warrior to prophet, and he asked others to go along as well.jack’s death certainly changed bobby; let’s hope barack can change our increasingly self-centered “i got mine and i want more” attitude– no matter the price, the cost, to others, the planet, even to those who so proclaim.(who would really want to be dick cheney?) bobby knew and barack knows that we’re all in this together.
on another positive note, how cool your selling “toast of the town”-one of your very best, and some of your new paintings might even be better. the less ego, the more light, the greater the freedom.
cheers!
I have just recently stumbled across myartspace.com and have viewed some nice work. I just wanted to drop you a note to say I like your work and especially “Limber Up” in your gallery on myartspace. I paint abstract and appreciate the - on the verge of abstract - quality of this piece. See you around.
